Korniche Lanterns

The Korniche Roof Lantern is without doubt, the best value aluminium roof lantern on the market and provides looks and performance head & shoulders above any similar priced competitor.

MORE GLASS LESS FRAME

Sizes are available upto 6000mm long x 4000mm wide with minimum number of glazing bars. This provides a light & airy structure making the most of the glass area without interruption. However, if you prefer a more traditional appearance, please let us know and we will include for glazing bars typically spaced at 600 to 900mm centres suitable for heritage buildings and older properties.

WINTER WARM, SUMMER COOL

Stay comfortable all year round – A range of glass choices is available including Neutral Solar Control Glass at no extra cost. This cuts down the sun’s heat by about 60%, but the slight neutral tint still lets in plenty of light resulting in a bright room without glare. A special low-emmissivity 1.2W/m2.K coating retains heat meaning you always stay cozy during the coldest winter months. Korniche Roof Lanterns are manufactured from thermally broken aluminium, foam filled gaskets and insulation to reduce the risk of condensation.

QUICK & EASY TO FIT

Each Roof Lantern kit comes with easy to follow instructions and is designed for quick assembly rarely taking more than half a day to install. Glass is supplied loose making them ideal for projects where access is restricted as the frame is supplied in knock-down kit form and provided in easy, handy-size bundles.

FIRST CLASS APPEARANCE & FINISH

The neat, slim aluminium profiles are finished with a durable polyester powder coating finish which is virtually maintenance free. Our roof lanterns can be finished a variety of standard combinations (see the drop down menu above) or any standard RAL Colour. Self-cleaning glass comes standard to ensure easy maintenance all year round.

CUSTOM SIZE OR SHAPE REQUIRED?

The Korniche Roof Lantern is designed with a fixed pitch of 25 degrees and is always designed with hips both ends. If you require something different, then you may want to consider our SpanGard Roof Lantern which has more flexibility in terms of pitch, length, width and glass spec.
Our SpanGard Roof Lanterns offer greater design flexibility with variable pitch, shapes and glass specification. Hipped or Gable Ended, Spangard Roof Lanterns are available upto 6000mm wide by infinite length and are suitable for high end domestic or commercial applications. Manufactured from thermally broken aluminium, octagonal, pyramid, hexagon, multi-faceted or irregular shaped roof lanterns are all possible. You can find more details here.

MAXIMUM HEIGHT ABOVE FLOOR

If the height above floor level exceeds 5M, please contact our Technical Department as glass specification likely will need to be upgraded in order to comply with Building Regulations.

FAQs

  • How much do Korniche roof lanterns cost?
The cost of a Korniche roof lantern starts at £499.80 Excluding VAT, but the price will vary depending on the size of your roof lantern and the glass type you would like to use. For example, you could choose to install a minimum size of 850mm X 850mm, or a maximum of 5000mm X 3000mm. Alternatively, you could have a bespoke roof lantern manufactured. Essentially, there is no set cost for Korniche roof lanterns because it all depends on the features you choose to include. But we at Rooflight Centre ensure that regardless of the Korniche roof lantern you use, you receive the best price for your high-quality product.
  • Can you walk on Korniche roof lanterns?
It is possible to walk on Korniche roof lanterns, provided that you install the correct type of glass such as walk-on glass. Walk-on rooflights are designed to withstand pressure from the weight of a person and to retain its strength for years of use. If you’re interested in learning more about bespoke rooflights and different types of glass, please don’t hesitate to contact us today!
  • What are the benefits of Korniche roof lanterns?
Korniche roof lanterns boast a range of benefits that make them desirable to any building. They allow more light into the room they’re in, raising the overall brightness level of your room and reducing the need for artificial lighting. In addition, they are also incredibly efficient insulators. They maintain the temperature of your room and disallow external weather conditions from influencing it. If you’d like to learn more about the benefits of roof lanterns, read our blog!
  • Are Korniche roof lanterns easy to clean?
When the time comes to clean your Korniche roof lantern, you may experience some difficulty in reaching it to clean it properly. In rooms with high ceilings, you will need ladders and possibly length-adjustable sponges to access every inch of the roof lantern. However, if you have the equipment necessary to reach your roof lantern, and keep yourself safe while cleaning, the only problem you will encounter is the time it takes to complete the cleaning process.
  • Does my roof lantern need planning permission?
No. Roof lanterns don’t strictly need planning permission for installation to progress. However, there are restrictions if your roof lantern will extend beyond 150mm above the existing roof plane. So taking accurate measurements of this is recommended. Furthermore, you should consider whether your roof will be able to handle the extra weight. If your roof structure is weak, you should have it strengthened.
  • Do roof lanterns give more light?
Yes! Compared to an ordinary window, a roof lantern will bring up to 25% more natural light into a room when unobstructed. Optimal light transmission can only be achieved when your roof lantern is clean. So if you notice that your room feels darker than usual, there is a chance that you will need to clean your roof lantern.
  • Where should a roof lantern be placed?
Roof lanterns shouldn’t be placed in areas of your home where obstruction, condensation, or shading is likely to occur. Instead, you should install them in corridors, hallways, and rooms with no upper floor level above. Condensation can cause the seals in your roof lanterns to deteriorate over time, and constant shade will greatly reduce the level of light transmission into your building.
